1919 Gibson H-4 Mandola
SOLD
Case: Original hardshell case
Description:

This 1919 H-4 Mandola came to us with the all-too-common top sinking that many of these early mandolas suffered from. After an extensive restoration by luthier Rob Sharer, this H-4 is gig-ready, with a beautiful, woody voice. To start the process, Rob removed the back and made a plaster casting of how the top should be arched, using that to slowly move the top back into the correct position. Once that was complete, the top was beautifully re-braced, and three cracks were cleaned up (one by the bass side of the fingerboard, one on the treble side of the bridge, and one near the lower point on the treble side). The frets were dressed, and a Cumberland Acoustics bridge was installed for the sake of intonation. The pickguard is no longer with the instrument, but the tuners, tailpiece, and hardshell case are all original.
