1949 Recording King A-104 Roy Smeck
$3,995.00
Case: Original chipboard case
Description:

This “Roy Smeck” Model A-104 is a rare variation of the Gibson ES-150, only available for order through Montgomery Ward from 1938-1940, sporting the same carved spruce top and “Charlie Christian” style pickup as its Gibson counterpart. The back and sides are laminated maple with an arched back, as opposed to the ES-150’s solid woods and flat back. Another noticeable difference: the tone and volume controls were mounted above and behind the pickup on the bass side of the body. The Recording King appointments are undeniably cool, like the inlaid crown and block on the headstock, painted over with stenciled logos. The original translucent button Kluson tuners are in great shape; the original pickguard was replaced with a very well-made reproduction with the original tucked away safely in the case. There is some light play wear in spots, but the guitar is in fantastic condition overall. Comes in the original chipboard case.
