Wayne Henderson needs no introduction, and it is always a pleasure to have one of his extremely sought after guitars for sale. This D-28, #653, had its top signed by Wayne in May of 2016, and features an Adirondack spruce top, forward-shifted x bracing, East Indian rosewood back & sides, mahogany neck, ebony bridge & fingerboard, and open-gear Waverly tuners. The guitar itself is in great shape, free from any previous repairs. The back has developed a bit of a “wave” near the end block; the guitar was just recently evaluated by Wayne himself, and has been proclaimed stable and not at risk of cracking. In his estimation, this was caused by his making the back slightly larger than the mold it went in. Tonally, the guitar is extremely open and responsive, with a robust bottom end and bell-like trebles. It does exhibit a bit of average play wear, mostly on the back but a bit on the top as well. Frets appear to be recently dressed, and a K&K Pure Mini pickup has been installed. 1 23/32” nut width (1.719), 2 3/16” spacing at the bridge. Comes in a hardshell case.
