The recent J-45 ’42 Banner reissues from Gibson Custom are among some of our favorite new J-45 models in recent memory, capturing a lot of what makes the originals so sought-after. It features a torrefied Adirondack spruce top, scalloped-X Adirondack top braces attached with hide glue, mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck with “Historic” profile and rosewood fingerboard, bone nut & saddle, vintage-accurate rectangular bridge, tear-drop style pickguard, 3-on-a-plate open-gear tuners and Gibson’s “VOS” finish. The guitar shows some light signs of use, including a small ding on the top’s treble side, and a small finish chip on the bass side’s lower bout top binding. Tonally, the guitar holds up to hard strumming (but isn’t afraid of a lighter touch either), with a throaty, bass-forward voice when compared to other J-45s. Comes in the original hardshell case.
