Here’s a rare opportunity to own a banjo from the personal collection of “The Duke of Drive”, Terry Baucom. This RB-250’s serial number would date it to 1960, and it would have to be from earlier in the year to still have a bowtie below the “Mastertone” inlay, a feature seen on 1959 and earlier banjos. Features include a mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard & “Bowtie”/Mastertone inlays, four hole archtop tone ring, 3-ply maple rim, laminated mahogany resonator with two concentric rings and black/white/back binding, bound “dove wing” peghead with crown inlay, and “stair step” tuners. This banjo is in factory original condition, with the exception of a geared 5th string tuner and Presto tailpiece that Bauc installed (the originals are in the original Gibson-badged hardshell case).
The net proceeds from this sale will benefit the Terry Baucom Bluegrass Scholarship Fund, and a letter certifying the banjo's provenance will be included with the sale.
